Zakers Affinity Causes Uplifts Female Inmates in Honor of International Women’s Day
Basseterre, St. Kitts – March 8, 2025
“No matter where we are on the ladder, let’s celebrate and encourage each other to win big.” These powerful words, spoken by Cindy Demming-Nias, set the tone for RISE-1840, an initiative led by Zakers Affinity Causes in recognition of International Women’s Day. Held on March 7th at the Old Boys School on Seaton Street, this initiative aimed to empower female inmates at Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP), offering hope, mentorship, and essential support.
The event featured a flash mentoring session, where participants engaged in meaningful discussions on personal development, resilience, and reintegration into society. Additionally, the distribution of feminine and hygiene products ensured that essential needs were met, reinforcing the importance of self-care and dignity. By combining mentorship with tangible support, the initiative highlighted the power of community in uplifting women who are often overlooked.
As the world embraces the theme of International Women’s Day 2025 –
“Accelerate Action”, this initiative served as a reminder that
empowerment must go beyond words—it requires action. Supporting incarcerated women is a critical step toward breaking cycles, rebuilding lives, and creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
In her closing remarks, Virgil Hodge, Rehabilitation Officer at Her Majesty’s Prison, emphasized the deeper meaning of the day, stating, “This day is not just another day on the calendar, but a movement towards inspiration and reflection.” Her words reinforced the urgency to take meaningful steps toward gender equality and ensure that every woman, regardless of her circumstances, has the opportunity to transform her life.
Through initiatives like RISE-1840, Zakers Affinity Causes remains committed to accelerating action for women’s empowerment and ensuring that no woman is left behind.
