MOE HOSTS PRE-SERVICE TRAINING FOR FUTURE EDUCATORS AHEAD OF THE 2026 – 2027 ACADEMIC YEAR
Basseterre: St. Kitts, Thursday, June 18, 2026: On Wednesday, June 18, the Ministry of Education commenced its annual pre-service training for future teachers. The opening ceremony took place at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Auditorium, under the theme: Transforming Education Through Self-Renewal, Holistic Partnerships and Digital Solutions.
Chief Education Officer, Mr. Francil Morris expressed gratitude to the aspiring educators for showing interest in teaching and outlined the triumphs and challenges of teaching.
“I want to express my gratitude to our prospective teachers for accepting the Ministry’s invitation to apply to be part of the noblest profession, the teaching fraternity. By choosing this path, you are choosing not just a career, but to be the primary authors of change in our nation’s future. As you embark on this journey, I want you to anchor this truth deep within your hearts: being a teacher is so much more than just a job, or having a title, or receiving a pay cheque. It is a calling. It is a sacred commitment to fostering curiosity, building character, and lofting up the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators.”
Senior Education Officer, Mrs. Janelle Williams – Jacobs provided a summary of the training programme noting that the training plays a foundational role on their journey to becoming efficient educators, optimizing student learning and classroom time while effectively managing the use of resources, effort, and time.
Dr. Ionie Liburd Willett, keynote speaker, advised the prospective teachers to embrace the daily demands of the profession, prioritize personal wellness, build strong professional networks, and actively incorporate technology into their lessons.
“The future belongs to educators who are adaptable, collaborative, compassionate, and courageous. It belongs to teachers who never stop learning and who understand that education is not about filling minds – it is about igniting possibilities.”
Addressing the cohort on behalf of the Minister of Education, Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Lisa Pistana, explained the value of educators to nation building.
“Candidates, today marks the beginning of a journey that is both deeply personal and profoundly communal. You are stepping into a calling that has shaped civilizations, nurtured leaders, and transformed societies. Teaching is not simply a profession—it is a vocation, a mission, and a legacy. And today by your mere presence you are requesting to be considered for entry into this prestigious fraternity. Teachers are the architects of possibility. You do not merely deliver lessons; you unlock doors to imagination, critical thinking, and resilience. The classroom is where the future is written, one student at a time.”
Mrs. Pistana further elaborated on the objectives of the programme and urge participants to recognize their skills and talents.
“The purpose of this pre‑service programme is two-fold. It gives you a glimpse into the profession in areas such as pedagogy or classroom management. And it gives the Ministry of Education a firsthand view of you the candidates.”
The training sessions are slated to begin Thursday, June 17 and conclude on Thursday, June 25
