MOE INSTALLS FIRST-EVER ST. KITTS COUNCIL OF PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATION
Basseterre, St. Kitts, Wednesday, September 09, 2026: The Ministry of Education has
installed the first-ever St. Kitts Council of Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), marking a historic
milestone in the nation’s education sector.
The newly established Council is expected to strengthen collaboration among parents, teachers
and schools while providing a unified platform to address issues affecting students and the wider
education stakeholders.
Hon. Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, delivered
congratulatory remarks and described the occasion as the beginning of a new chapter for
education in St. Kitts.
“I am deeply humbled to stand before you today at this historic moment as we witness the
induction of the very first St. Kitts Council of Parent-Teacher Association. This is not just
another ceremony; it is the birth of a new chapter on our nation’s education journey, first of its
kind in St. Kitts, and I say congratulations.”
The Council will be led by its newly installed president, Mrs. Diana Williams-Humphrey, who
outlined her vision for an active and purposeful organisation.
“As your incoming president, I intend to push for a PTA that is active, inclusive, collaborative
and most of all purposeful. A PTA that helps to identify opportunities before problems arrive, a
PTA that listens, a PTA that advocates, a PTA that builds partnerships and a PTA that is
prepared to have the necessary conversations even when those conversations may not always be
comfortable.”
The establishment of the Council represents a significant step toward giving parents and teachers
a stronger collective voice in matters relating to education. Through collaboration and advocacy,
the Council is expected to work alongside the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders to
support the continued development of students and schools across St. Kitts.
