Village scene: It is the PLP’s Second National Convention shaping up nicely
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, March 21, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — A large tent that was set up on Sunday March 18 on the Patsy Allers Playing field in the Village area of West Basseterre is attracting quite some attention. Excitement is building up as the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) readies itself to hold its second National Convention on Saturday March 24.
The Peoples Labour Party, a constituent member of the Team Unity Government that is led by Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, whose mantra is ‘Putting People First’ is advancing the tradition it ably established last year by being the first national political party to hold its convention in rural St. Kitts when Tabernacle Village was the venue.
This time round, the PLP is going back to the people with its Second Annual National Convention being held in West Basseterre where a bumper attendance is expected based on the interest it is creating in the Village area with the huge tent drawing such a massive attention among the adults and school children.
The Peoples Labour Party National Executive met on Tuesday March 20 at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort, where finer details of the convention were ironed out. In attendance were the National Political Leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris; the Deputy National Political Leader, Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett; and National Secretary Ms Myrtilla Williams. All PLP Constituency Branches were represented at the meeting.
The meeting was chaired by National Chairman Mr Warren Thompson who said that preparations are at a very advanced stage, and that all PLP Constituency Branches have forwarded the lists of their delegates. According to Mr Thompson, the convention will be much bigger than the one hosted last year as the party now has more paid up members.
Giving reports at the meeting were Mr Antonio Maynard who is the Chairperson of the PLP Public Relations and Media Committee; Ms Jacqueline Prentice who heads the PLP Protocol Desk; and Mr Christophe Greaux who represented the PLP 2018 Convention Grounds Committee.
According to the PLP Secretariat the convention, which comes exactly one year after the inaugural one that was held on March 25 last year, will see pre-convention events starting at 12:00 noon onSaturday March 24. All guests are expected to be seated by 1:30 p.m. in preparation for the official start time of 2 p.m. with the public session. Private session will commence as from 4:00 p.m.
Expected to attend the convention are political leaders of the other constituent parties in the Team Unity Government, namely the People’s Action Movement (PAM), and the Nevis-based Concerned Citizen’s Movement (CCM). Names of overseas guests who have been lined-up to grace the auspicious event will be announced closer to the convention.
