PAM supporter shocked party will support Timothy Harris as PM for second term
Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 10, 2018 – A staunch supporter of the Peoples Action Movement (PAM), has expressed shock that the 50-year-old party will saddle St. Kitts and Nevis with Dr. Timothy Harris for a second term as prime minister.
The individual, who has a senior position in the Federal Government, was responding to a statement this week by new PAM Chairman, Jonel Powell, that even if the PAM wins six seats in the next general election, the party will support the PLP leader, Dr. Timothy Harris, as prime minister.

In a WINNFM interview on Monday, Powell said the party plans to contest six seats in the next election and will throw its weight behind Dr. Harris as prime minister for a second term.
“This is unbelievable. Is he (Powell) serious that PAM with six seats, even four, or a simple majority, will allow Dr. Harris to remain as Prime Minister? Has the PAM party of Dr. (William) Herbert and Sir Kennedy (Simmonds), committed to keep Timothy (Harris) to continue his already dismal and failed leadership of St. Kitts and Nevis?” Harris record is one of total failure,” said the individual, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisal.
Last month, the individual had expressed concern that Prime Minister Harris has taken the twin-island federation on “a tyrannical road.”
“This Trinidadian social scientist (Dr. Sharon-Ann Gopaul-McNicol) had scales on her eyes when she told the electorate that (Dr. Denzil L.) Douglas was ‘the galloping dictator.’ History will prove she was wrong and it is (Timothy) Harris who is the galloping dictator.”
She also expressed concern that Dr. Harris seemed bent on “unravelling the gains to the nation by his predecessors including Sir Kennedy Simmonds, the man he anointed as the “First Living National Hero.”
One of her concerns was electoral reform “which could result in the disenfranchisement of our people” and “the bastardization of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which removed the ability of the legislative and constitutional body to look into areas of corruption, at a time when the government that I and others voted for, thumped its chest on the altar of transparency, accountability, openness and good governance by bringing us into the sunshine. Today it is total darkness and we are drowning in corruption.”
Saying that she has always been a supporter of the Peoples Action Movement she asked: “Why Hon. Shawn Richards cannot be the prime minister? Is PAM now a second or third fiddle? I will have to assess my continued support for PAM prior to the next election. Dr. Harris has failed the people. I give him an F. St. Kitts and Nevis deserves better.”
