Dr. Martin: “Don’t allow Prime Minister Harris to fool you again”
Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 3, 2018 – “Do not allow Dr Harris and his crew to fool you again!”
That’s the message Wednesday from Deputy Political Leader of the opposition St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), Dr. Earl Asim Martin, who accused Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris of presiding over a worsening economy, skyrocketing food prices, insecurity of women and high unemployment.
“For the last three years, the coalition government headed by Dr Timothy Harris has made it its mission to try and distract the general public from the pressing issues of the day and point their attention towards all things aesthetic. There has been a flurry of last-minute activities from the government this year to create a sense that they have your interest at heart. Where have they been for 3 years?,” Dr. Martin asked.
He pointed out that over the next several months, it will become increasingly evident that elections are fast approaching.
“Dr. Harris promised you, the people of this fair land, economic stability and robust growth. Dr. Harris said he would create and provide jobs for the jobless. Dr. Harris said that he and his crew had the solution to crime and violence. Dr. Harris said that people would be safe from political persecution. Dr. Harris said that he and his team were the change our country needed. Our people are now largely aware that Dr Harris has failed to measure up; he has hung his hat higher than his reach, been weighed and found woefully wanting,”said Dr. Martin, a former deputy prime minister and minister of public works, health and energy.
Dr. Martin said the previous economic growth trend on which the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party administration had set the Federation’s economy is a thing of the past.
“A select few are treated to jobs with first preference being given to Dr Harris’ friends and family; numerous persons have been left jobless because of their perceived political affiliation; and our women and girls are often on the receiving end of vicious and heinous acts of violence and disrespect perpetrated against them by misguided and desperate individuals in our societies. The price of food has sky-rocketed and mothers are finding it increasingly difficult to provide for their families,” said Dr. Martin.
