Crime Reaches Unprecedented High: Armed Criminals Attack Hotels

The crime situation in St Kitts and Nevis has reached epic heights despite Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr Timothy Harris’ constant claims that crime is trending downward.

Over the past weekend, numerous reports of criminal activity were circulated. There was an attempted murder in Saddlers Village and the armed robbery of Dolphin Discovery Park . Interestingly, Oualie Beach Hotel on Nevis was held up by armed assailants the Friday before (May 18th).

At present, the public is unaware as to whether or not the two hotel robberies are related. Both incidents, however, have caused grave concern in numerous social spheres. Accordingly, persons have expressed their deep concern and shock at the realisation that the Federation’s criminal elements have become emboldened to the point where they are launching armed attacks directly on the tourism industry.

With the citizenship by investment programme performing dismally over the last three years, the Federation is heavily dependent on revenue generated via the tourism industry. The current crime situation, to say the least, does not bode well for the country’s future economic health.
