ONE PERSON IN CUSTODY AND OTHERS BEING SOUGHT IN RELATION TO ARMED ROBBERIES


Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 02, 2018 (RSCNPF):
 Police are investigating two armed robberies that occurred over the past few days.

On Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at about 8:15 p.m. Police received a report that an armed robbery had taken place at the Daily Foods Limited Supermarket in Sandy Point. Officers responded and conducted enquiries. Investigations so far have revealed that the co-owner of the supermarket, Cai Yan Ying, was at the cashier’s desk when two armed men entered the establishment and demanded she open the cash pans, which she did. The assailants took an undisclosed sum of money then fired a single gunshot from inside through the glass of the door then they fled the scene.

The gunmen were dressed in camouflage clothing, however, other persons are believed to have been involved and present in the area at the time of the incident. Persons who might have seen anyone dressed in this type of clothing around the time of the incident, anything suspicious in the area or have any other information relating to the incident are asked to call the Sandy Point Police Station at 465-6261 or their nearest Police Station. One individual was taken into Police custody on Tuesday in relation to this incident to assist with investigations which are ongoing.

Police are also investigating an armed robbery that took place at about midnight on July 29 at the El Classicio Spanish Bar at George Street, Newton. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Altagaricia Retes was at the bar when she was approached by two masked men with what appeared to be guns. They robbed her of a small brown bag which contained a sum of money and personal cards before fleeing the scene.

Investigations into this incident continue. Persons with information regarding this matter are urged to call the Criminal Investigation Department at the Basseterre Police Station by dialing 465-2241.
