Basseterre, St. KittsAugust 2, 2018 (S.T.E.P.) — Prime Minister and Minister of People Empowerment, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, Thursday afternoon August 2, surprised staff members of the Skills Training Empowerment Programme (STEP) when he joined them as they held an office party in honour of one of their colleagues, the newly crowned Miss Caribbean Jaycees Queen – Ms Sheniqua Lanns.

Ms Sheniqua Lanns, secretary at the STEP office which is a government agency under the Office of the Prime Minister, is also the reigning Miss National Carnival Queen and had returned from St. John’s in Antigua and Barbuda where she represented St. Kitts in the 57th edition of the Caribbean Jaycees Queen Pageant on Sunday July 29. She emerged the winner beating the home contestant into the first runner up position

“We congratulate Ms Sheniqua Lanns on what has been described as an outstanding performance; a performance which satisfied the likes of all in St. Kitts and Nevis that we could be number one in Antigua and Barbuda,” said Prime Minister Harris as he led the STEP staff in toasting to the new Miss Caribbean Jaycees Queen.

On behalf of the entire country, and especially the workers at the Skills Training Empowerment Programme (STEP), Prime Minister Harris told Miss Lanns: “We tell you how much we love you, and how proud we are of you and we look forward to having much more displays of your wonderful talent.”

Earlier on, the Director of Skills Training Empowerment Programme, Mr Wendell Wattley, had presented Ms Lanns with a plaque with the inscription: “Sheniqua Lanns: Congratulations on winning the 57th annual Miss Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show 2018. We love and appreciate you. STEP office August 2018.”

“I would like to thank the Prime Minister the Hon Timothy Harris for taking time out of his busy schedule to come up into the STEP office and celebrate with me and my co-workers,” said Ms Lanns, who was showered with an array of gifts by her office colleagues.

She explained how her work colleagues had surprised when she arrived to see a poster at the outside front office door with her pictures, one as the Carnival Queen and the other as the Caribbean Jaycees Queen, and on getting into the office she saw another poster by her desk with her picture on it and the inscription ‘Welcome home! We are proud of you Sheniqua Lanns Ms Jaycees 2018’.

“I am thankful for them for organising this for me,” said Ms Lanns. “I am pleasantly surprised and I must say that they have supported me from day one. Since when I entered the Miss National Carnival Queen Show, they have always had my back, even up until this show Miss Jaycees Queen Show they rallied with me 100 per cent. So I want to say ‘thank you’ to each and every one of them and I love them.”
