Development Bank partnered with the Central Bank in celebrating 2018 Financial Information Month
Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 2, 2018 (DBSKN) — Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis (DBSKN) was one of the financial institutions in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis that partnered with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) in the observance of the month of October as the Financial Information Month.
In declaring the Financial Information Month officially open on Monday October 1, Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Mr Timothy Antoine observed that the regional financial institution was celebrating 35 years of existence, service and monetary stability.
Financial Information Month 2018, whose theme was ‘Financial Empowerment Through Education’, focused on ‘Conducting and Protecting Your Business in a Digital Environment’, and a highlight of month-long celebration was the holding of a Financial Business Fair on Friday October 26 at the Independence Square in Basseterre.
“The Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis was partnering with the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank for the Financial Information Month,” said Ms Tamara Herbert, Development Bank’s lead person for the Central Bank’s Financial Information Month. “We were one of their partners as we were a participant in the Financial Information Month Business Fair. While this was the second fair, it was the first time we at the Development Bank were taking part.”
The Development Bank’s booth was the first when one entered the square from West Independence Street, and was located next to the old telephone booth where members from the Business Support Unit, the Industrial Estate Unit, the Marketing Unit, the Accounts Unit and the Credit Risk Management Unit, sensitised members of the public to the bank’s products and services.
Staff members who were at the booth at different times were Ms Jasmin Primus of the Industrial Estates Unit, Ms Jamela Warner and Ms Laprisca Liburd of the Credit Risk Management Unit, Mr Manasses Huggins of the Business Support Unit, Ms Vernitha Maynard of the Marketing Unit, and Ms Tamara Herbert of the Accounts Unit. Chairman of the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis Board of Directors Mr Warren Thompson stopped at the booth to encourage the staff members manning it.
Treasure hunts for primary school and high school students were held. While the one for primary schools was confined to the Independence Square, the one for high school students took them to a number of locations in Basseterre. Ms Herbert was stationed at the War Memorial Cenotaph, Ms Maynard was stationed at UWI Open Campus, and Mrs Kimmoy O’Loughlin-Burroughs of Business Support Unit was stationed at the bank where they presented tokens to the students as they went about in their treasure hunt.
“The Financial Information Month concluded on Wednesday October 31 with a business symposium at the ECCB from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm,” said Ms Herbert. “In addition we had a number of activities during the month of October. We had a library day, we had a charity outreach, and we had the T-shirt day in which we wore the Financial Information Month T-shirts every Friday.”
Two persons who answered correctly questions related to Development Bank received awards, while Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank was among the scores of people who paid a visit to the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis booth at the Financial Information Month Business Fair. Senior Minister, the Hon Vance Amory also visited the booth.
