Sandy Point Police Station to have own home, says Prime Minister Harris

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, January 17, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, has announced that the Sandy Point Police Station which is housed in a rental property will soon have its own home.

“You would recall in our budget address we indicated that from the public sector, and the Government sector in particular, over 150 million dollars will be pumped into the economy, to facilitate growth, to facilitate employment of our people, and to put our country to work again,” said Prime Minister Harris while addressing his first press conference for Year 2019 at the Parliamentary Lounge in Government Headquarters on Wednesday January 16.

“The Sandy Point Police Station is one of those projects which is important to us, and it is important in the context of our delivery of law and order,” observed Dr Harris. “For the first time in many decades, I am advised, that the Sandy Point Police Station will have its own home. While there has been a Sandy Point Police Station, for the last many number of years, it has been operating from rental property.”

The Honourable Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris said that by building a new complex, his Team Unity Administration would be giving the Sandy Point Police Station its own home.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister and Minister of National Security advised that after a transparent bidding process, a local company in Skeete and Associates had been contracted to execute the project. Ground breaking for the new police station will be held in the near future.

“I want to thank the Deputy Prime Minister and Area Representative, the Hon Shawn Richards, for the serious attention he has paid to this matter, and for urging that we ensure that in our 2019 estimates we made adequate preparations for this, and we have,” said Prime Minister Harris. The deputy Prime Minister was present at the Press Conference.

Members of the Police High Command at the Press Conference were the Acting Commissioner of Police Hilroy Brandy, Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime Directorate Mr Andre Mitchell, and Acting ACP with responsibility for Operations Mr Adolph Adams. Also present included the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security Mr Osmond Petty, and National Security Advisor, Major General (Ret.) Stewart Saunders.
