Prime Minister Harris says launch of Lodge Explorers Club is good for communities

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, February 19, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — The launch of Lodge Explorers Community Youth Club will be of special benefit to parents in the Lodge, Lodge Project, Bourryeau, and Ottley’s communities of Constituency Number Seven, which is represented in the Parliament by Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.

“Clearly from all that we have heard and seen today something good is happening in this part of the country, and it will catch on like a spark and it shall light everywhere in St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Prime Minister Harris on Sunday February 17 during the launch of the Lodge Explorers Club at the Violet Petty Primary School.

Formation and launching of the Lodge Explorers Community Youth Club and five others before it is the culmination of what is an integral part of broader community policing and social intervention initiatives, which are broader crime prevention strategies by the Ministry of National Security and are geared towards strengthening character and promoting positive behaviour in young people.

“There are more good people than there are bad people in the world, and when good people like us take a stand for justice – for peace, the entire country will rise to its highest heights,” said Dr Harris, who is also the Minister of National Security. “From all that I have heard this afternoon, I am inspired that the young people are our present and future and we have confidence and continue to have confidence in their ability to deliver.”

The ceremony was chaired by Mr Melvin James, who has an affiliation with the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Bourryeau that organises the annual Camp Ezekiel for children. Prime Minister Harris told him that with the launch of the Lodge Explorers Community Youth Club, Camp Ezekiel now has an important pool for which they can grow and build.

“Camp Ezekiel has been doing good work in attempting to anchor the people from this part of the Constituency from Phillips, Molineux, Bourryeau, Lodge Village and Lodge Project, and Ottley’s,” said the Area Parliamentary Representative.

The launch ceremony, which had Dr Vance Gilbert as its featured speaker, was attended by Deputy Speaker Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, Assistant Commissioner of Police Mr Andre Mitchel representing the Police High Command, National Security Advisor Major General (Ret.) Stewart Saunders, Crime specialist consultant Dr Neals Chitan, Force Personnel Officer Mr Clifford Govia, and Mr Steve France-Sargeant of Bramshill Policing Academy in England.

A website featuring activities of all the six Explorers Clubs, ‘St. Kitts and Nevis Explorers Community Youth Club’, which is a crime reduction and prevention initiative of the Ministry of National Security, and a Facebook page that were was designed and built by Mr Rickey Bharat were unveiled by Ms Jacqueline Bryant, Police Force Public Relations Officer.
