Nation under God: Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis observes National Day of Prayer and Fasting

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, September 3, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis on Monday September 2 marked the National Day of Prayer and Fasting which culminated with the Annual National Prayer Gathering that was held at the Zion Moravian Church, Victoria Road in Basseterre.

Led by Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, nationals and residents drawn from a wide cross-section of the Christians community during the course of the day heeded the Scripture passage, ‘Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the Will of God in Christ Jesus for you’ (1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18) to mark and honour the National Day of Prayer and Fasting.

In the evening, as part of the National Day of Prayer and Fasting in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, attention moved to the Annual National Prayer Gathering 2019 that was held at the Zion Moravian Church, guided by the Scripture ‘Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you’ (Jeremiah 29:12).

The National Prayer Gathering 2019 was moderated by Pastor Kenneth Francis of Abundant Life Transformation Ministries, Sandy Point. A wide cross-section from the Christian community attended the prayer event, and among them were Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, Deputy Prime Minister the Hon Shawn Richards, Senior Minister and Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs the Hon Vance Amory, Attorney General the Hon Vincent Byron Jr., and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs Mr Ron Collins.

Solemn and elaborate prayers were offered in eleven segments and church leaders from the various denominations were called upon to lead.

These included, among others, Pastor Pansyna Bailey of the Pentecostal Church of God; Superintendent of the Wesleyan Holiness Church St. Kitts, Nevis and Saba District, Rev Spencer Watts; Pastor Michael Penny of Mount Carmel Baptist Church; Pastor Zacchaeus Oyebefun of the Redeemed Christian Church of God; Pastor Ben Browne of Cayon Church of God; Force Chaplain Pastor Ericson Cumberbatch; Sis Leonie James of St. Kitts Intercessory Network; and Rev Calvin Hazel of Calvary Baptist Church.

Segments included, Prayers of Praise and Adoration; Prayer of Thanksgiving for God’s Blessings and Favour; Prayer for Youths of Nation; Prayer for Families; Prayer for Peace and Security in our Land; and Prayer of Healing and All Who Serve in the Medical Profession.

Others were: Prayer for the Nation – Its Leadership and People; Prayer of Protection from Storms and Danger; Prayer for Deliverance from Evil; Prayer for Restoration and Revival; and Prayer for the Church.

During a sitting of Parliament on Tuesday September 3, Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris reported that the service was a blessing for the nation and all who attended the actual National Prayer Gathering, and he thanked members of the church community for hosting such a wonderful undertaking.
