ST. KITTS AND NEVIS’ OVERSEAS MISSIONS AND EMBASSIES ENCOURAGED TO STAY IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH NATIONALS IN THE DIASPORA

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 02, 2021 (SKNIS): Staff at St. Kitts and Nevis’ Overseas Missions and Embassies are strongly encouraged to stay in close contact with nationals in the diaspora as these relationships will be helpful in the event of any disasters.

During his September 01 appearance on Working for You, Kervin Lloyd, representative of the National Disaster Management Committee on the Foreign Assistance Sub-Committee, said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) encourages these close ties.

“…More and more persons within the – Canada, the United States, Europe and all around the world – we are encouraging our Missions, Heads, staff at our missions to keep a very close relationship with them,” said Mr. Lloyd. “Not only find out where they live, how to contact them in case they have problems, but also to make sure that we know how to find them.”

He noted that the Missions and Embassies play a critical role during disasters, hence the importance of ensuring that contact is made on a regular basis. Mr. Lloyd said that there are persons within the diaspora who are more than willing to assist at any time.

“Some of these people are very willing and ready to move at a moment’s notice if anything happens in their home country of St. Kitts and Nevis; very willing to mobilize all the resources that they have, that they know of outside of their private assistance to make sure that whatever help comes into St. Kitts and Nevis can come quickly,” said Mr. Lloyd. “They are willing and in a capacity that is the very best that we can receive at that point in time.”
