FOOD VOUCHER PROGRAMME RESUMES WHILE APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FOR SCHOOL UNIFORM ASSISTANCE

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 12, 2023 (SKNIS): The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis maintains a strong commitment to ensuring that the social protection programmes continue as it pursues its sustainable development agenda while empowering persons and improving their quality of life.

Minister of State responsible for Social Development, the Honourable Isalean Phillip, told the National Assembly on Monday, June 12, 2023, that the Food Voucher Programme is now operational after some delays. The vouchers are renewable at participating supermarkets throughout St. Kitts and allow beneficiary vouchers starting at $200 and running up to $400 per month.

Additionally, as the current school term prepares to end, applications are now being accepted for the school’s uniform assistance programme for the start of the new school term in September. The programme provides school uniforms to qualifying students attending any public primary and secondary schools as well as the Advanced Vocational and Education Centre (AVEC) and the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC).

Cash transfers are also continuing as part of the Poverty Alleviation Programme (PAP), which provides $500 per month to eligible households earning less than $3,000 per month.
“I do not want the public to be dismayed because the objective is to ensure that we support persons who are in need, particularly at this time, so we will continue in every effort to do so by providing assistance to everyone who needs it,” the Honourable Phillip stated.

Persons in need of assistance are encouraged to visit the Department of Community Development and Social Services on Victoria Road or at Lime Kiln (2nd floor of the Antioch Baptist Church) to apply for assistance.
