Saint Kitts and Nevis Establishes Diplomatic Relations with Palau.

Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan) (21st May 2024) – In a brief but significant ceremony, the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis established diplomatic relations with the island nation of the Republic of Palau by signing a joint communiqué today, May 21st, 2024.

The signing ceremony was held at the Presidential Office in Taipei, Taiwan.

The joint communiqué was signed by His Excellency Donya L. Francis, Ambassador of the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the Republic of China (Taiwan) and His Excellency David Orrukem, Ambassador of the Republic of Palau to the Republic of China (Taiwan).


Ambassador Francis said that this agreement marks a significant milestone in the relationship between the two countries.

“This historic event signifies our commitment to fostering friendship, partnership, and mutual respect between the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis and Palau,” said Ambassador Francis.

The signing of this agreement opens a world of possibilities for collaboration in various areas as it encourages open communication and cooperation between the governments and people of both countries.


“As diplomatic allies, the relationship between Saint Kitts and Nevis and Palau will be one of mutual benefit as we work together and share knowledge, ideas and expertise in areas such as people empowerment, trade, culture, education, maritime, climate action and sustainable practices, especially as both nations are Small Island Developing States,” explained Ambassador Francis.

The signing of the joint communiqué was witnessed by a distinguished gathering, including the Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, Honourable Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, President of the Republic of Palau, Surangel Whipps Jr., Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, and the newly naugurated President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Dr. Lai, Ching-te, who assumed office on May 20th, 2024.

Senator Garth Wilkin, Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, was
also in attendance.
