ALL POLITICAL PARTIES INVITED TO STAKEHOLDER MEETING: EVIDENCE CONTRADICTS CLAIMS BY PLP

Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 26, 2024 (SKNIS): In response to recent claims by the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) that all political were not invited to the stakeholders meeting and consultation with Prime Minister, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew, the  Citizens Security Secretariat, wishes to set the record straight.

The Citizens Security Secretariat provided clear evidence that an official email invitation was sent to all registered political parties in St. Kitts and Nevis, including the PLP on Monday, August 19, 2024. This invitation explicitly outlined the purpose of the meeting and emphasised the importance of their participation in the ongoing consultative process. All parties are encouraged to independently verify this information to dispel any misunderstandings.

The recent stakeholder meeting marked a positive beginning to a crucial 90-day consultative process aimed at addressing the critical security issues facing the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. According to Prime Minister Dr. Drew, the engagement of all stakeholders, including the PLP, Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), Concerned Citizen Movement (CCM), the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) is vital to our collective goal of enhancing citizen security across St. Kitts and Nevis.

Prime Minister Terrance Drew expressed disappointment at the negative portrayal of what should have been a constructive dialogue.

“We are committed to working together for the benefit of our citizens, and we remain dedicated to fostering an inclusive and transparent process,” said Prime Minister Dr. Drew. “Despite the misinformation, the government remains open and eager to continue to collaborate with the whole of society including political parties. We once again extend our invitation to the PLP to participate in this vital consultation. Our shared goal is to build trust, enhance safety, and create a more secure environment for all residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Dr. Drew said that as the consultation continues, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis look forward to engaging with other key stakeholders in society to ensure that the voices of all citizens are heard and considered in the decision-making process.
