Fly Jamaica: Boeing passenger plane crash lands at Guyana airport after ‘technical problem’ on way to Toronto

Aircraft overshoots runway at Cheddi Jagan International Airport

Fly Jamaica plane has been forced into a crash landing at a Guyana airport after developing a “technical problem” en route to Toronto, leaving at least six passengers injured.

The Boeing 757 was carrying 118 people including two infants and was forced to turn round minutes into the flight due to a “hydraulics problem”.

In the emergency landing the aircraft overran the airstrip, crashed through a perimeter fence and came to a rest a few feet in front of a steep ditch. Passengers exited the craft on escape slides.

INCREASING AIRLIFT ARRIVALS INTO ST. KITTS IS A SIGN OF EXPANDING TOURISM SECTOR
Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 06, 2018 (SKNIS): Airlift arrivals into St. Kitts continue to trend upwards when compared to comparable statistics from the previous year said Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Lindsay Grant, while expressing pleasure with the arrival figures for 2018 thus far.

“We recorded a 14.3 percent increase system-wide and a whopping 20.3 percent increase from North America – our largest source market – for the first half of 2018 compared to the same period last year. For the month of March alone, arrivals increased by 29.6 percent system-wide and 45.5 percent from North America over March 2017,” he said.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 06, 2018 (SKNIS): In addition to the growth of St. Kitts’ tourism sector over the past year, the tourism product as described by the Minister of Tourism, the Honourable Lindsay Grant, is one that continues to be recognized for excellence.

According to Minister Grant, so far for 2018 alone, St. Kitts has been named among the 22 “hot spots” for Where to Go in 2018 by Bloomberg – the only Caribbean destination to appear on the list. The Robb Report listed St. Kitts as one of the Top 21 Places to Travel in 2018, while Travel Agent named the island as one of the Destinations to Watch in the Caribbean for 2018. Additionally, Caribbean Journal recognized St. Kitts as one of The 18 Best Islands in the Caribbean to Visit in 2018; one of the Top 20 Islands to Live on in the Caribbean and one of the Best Honeymoon Destinations in the Caribbean.

SUN COUNTRY AIRLINES TO BEGIN REGULAR SCHEDULED NON-STOP FLIGHT TO ST. KITTS AND NEVIS IN DECEMBER 2018

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 06, 2018 (SKNIS): Sun Country Airlines out of Minneapolis, Minnesota, will begin regular scheduled non-stop flights into the Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw (RLB) International Airport in St. Kitts, says Minister of Tourism, Honourable Lindsay Grant, at a sitting of National Assembly on September 06.

This will be the first time there will be a no-stop service out of the Upper Midwestern region of the United States. Minister grant explained that flights more or less come from the Eastern sea board. This new flight will give persons in the Midwestern region the opportunity to connect non-stop into St. Kitts and Nevis.
