During today’s Budget Debate in the Federal Parliament, Dr. Harris shared: “I am advised Mr. Speaker, that we have had significant reductions in crimes in certain areas. For example, I am advised that in the gun related areas where the cameras have been [installed], we saw a reduction [in serious crimes] from 33 in 2016, to 19 in 2017, representing a 42.4% reduction, and we have had five such incidences recorded in the run up for the period so far,” the prime minister said, comparing the 2017 to 2018 period.

ONE IN CUSTODY, ANOTHER BEING SOUGHT IN RELATION TO WEEKEND SHOOTING IN NEVIS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 11, 2018 (RSCNPF): One person is in Police custody and another is being sought in relation to a recent shooting incident in Nevis.
At about 10:45 p.m. on Friday, December 07 Carlisle Pemberton was shot and injured at his home in Montpelier during what Police have ruled as a robbery. He was opening a gate at his home in order to park his car in the yard when he was attacked by two armed assailants. He was wounded in both legs by a single bullet. A number of personal items was taken from him by the assailants before they fled the scene in his motor jeep. Police later recovered Pemberton’s vehicle in the Bath Village area.

JOINT OPERATIONS LEAD TO FIREARM, AMMUNITION DISCOVERY
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 10, 2018 (RSCNPF): Officers from the Nevis Division, the Special Services Unit (SSU), and the Regional Security Service (RSS), along with Soldiers from the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF) conducted several operations throughout Nevis on Sunday, December 09, 2018.
During one of the operations, a .38 revolver with several rounds of ammunition was found on the premises of a home in the Rawlins area. The items, along with four individuals from the home, were taken into Police custody.
The Police, with the support of the SKNDF and, more recently, the RSS have been working day and night to rid communities around the Federation of firearms. To date, some thirty-seven firearms have been taken into Police custody for the year so far.

POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING INCIDENT IN NEWTOWN
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 10, 2018 (RSCNPF): Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred in Newtown in which a young man was shot and injured.
Police received the report at about 9 p.m. on December 09 and they responded immediately. Upon arrival they met Technicians with the Emergency Medical Service attending to 33-year-old Kevis Riley of Lower Carty Alley. Preliminary investigations so far have revealed that Riley was walking along Shephard Street, Newtown when he was approached from behind by two armed, unknown assailants who opened fire at him. He was shot several times about the body. Riley was transported to the JNF Hospital where he is listed as being in a stable condition.
Members from the Crime Scene Unit visited and processed the scene. Items of evidential value were taken into Police custody.
The Police are making an appeal to anyone who might have any information in relation to this incident to call the Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) at 467-1887, 467-1888, or 662-3468 or their nearest Police Station. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
