Community Involvement Leads To Seizure Of Yet Another Illegal Firearm And Arrest Of Perpetrator

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 30, 2017 (RSCNPF): Information received from a concerned citizen on Saturday night(April 29) has resulted in the discovery and seizure of the thirteenth (13) illegal firearm to be found in the Federation so far in 2017.

Upon receipt of such information , Officers commenced the search for the individual in the Ramsbury and Government Road areas on Nevis. The individual was located in the Government Road area walking with the firearm in his hand, he was challenged by the officers and he ran. A chase ensued and he was apprehended. One (1) Smith and Wesson 40mm pistol was recovered and seized.

The male was taken into custody, and a subsequent Search Warrant was executed on his home.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Ian M. Queeley said, “I am heartened by the courage of this citizen to come forward with such timely and credible information. This augurs well for the Police – Public Partnership”. He added, “it is this type of community involvement that will help us to maintain Citizen Safety.”

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continues its appeal to residents and citizens to come forward and share any information they may have with regards to crime and criminal activity. Citizens can do so by calling any Police Station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on a Smartphone.

This seizure brings to thirteen (13) the number of illegal firearms removed from our communities so far in 2017.

Prime Minister Harris Calls For Fresh Start At Her Majesty Prison Service

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, May 2, 2017 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, on Sunday April 30 paid homage to Her Majesty Prison officers and visiting Justices of Peace of HM Prisons, at an awards service held in their honour at the Immanuel Methodist Church in Sandy Point.
Dr Harris, who is also the Minister of National Security, said his government appreciated prison officers’ work and the country should do likewise because they add value to what is happening in the country’s prisons.
 
Turning to the visiting Justices of Peace of HM Prisons, Prime Minister Harris said they bring an external view to ensure that justice is not only being done but through the eyes of the general public it is seen to be done.
 
“I want to join the Superintendent of Prisons, Mr Junie Hodge, in offering congratulations and commendations to all who are serving in Her Majesty Prison Service,” said the Prime Minister. “The police bring them (offenders) to justice and he is expected to provide them protection and rehabilitation under the watch of Her Majesty’s Prison.”

ST.KITTS MAN SOUGHT BY VIRGIN ISLANDS POLICE

The Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has confirmed a St.Kitts National is being sort after escaping prison while on remand in Virgin Gorda today, April 28, 2017.

VI Police have identified the prisoner as Olanzo Dore, 31. Dore is from Cayon , St.Kitts but recently resided in the VI.

Double Homicide In Cotton Ground Nevis

Police have confirmed a double homicide in Cotton Ground, Nevis Tuesday afternoon.

Senior police officer in Nevis said that police were at the scene of a shooting incident which occurred between 4:30 – 5:00 pm Tuesday (Apr 25) where one young man Elvis lawrence was confirmed dead and one Sheriff Wiliams rushed to the Alexandra Hospital.

Police subsequently confirmed that Sharif Wiliams succumbed to his wounds.

Information received is that armed assailants exited a vehicle and opened fire on the men who were at a shop in the area.

This shooting comes eight days after 28-year-old Morella Webbe was killed in that village (Apr 17) when the car she was driving was fired upon by unknown assailants. A female passenger in the vehicle was hospitalized for gunshot injuries.

On Sunday, March 26, Rondell Chapman of Rawlins Village was gunned down on the cricket field in Cotton Ground during an afternoon match between two cricket clubs.

To date no one has been charged with her murder, or the shooting.

Tuesday’s double killing brings to five the number of homicides recorded for Nevis so far this year and the 8th for the federation.

The above were found by a squad of SKNDF soldiers while on patrol on Nevis this morning:
1 x Smith and Wesson revolver
1 x 357 Magnum pistol with 10 rounds and
1x Tech 9 machine pistol with an extended magazine and 21 9mm rds.

Also recovered were: 19 7.62mm rds of ammo.
A transparent bag containing vegetable substance believed to be cannabis and
A vendetta mask.

Six persons were held and handed over to the police.
