ST. KITTS-NEVIS GOVERNMENT TAKES ORDERLY APPROACH TO CREATION OF A CANNABIS INDUSTRY

 

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 23, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – A group of experts is being put together to provide technical support to the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis on the way forward for the decriminalization of cannabis and the establishment of a medical cannabis industry.

The group will consist of a broad body of persons in St. Kitts and Nevis and from across the Diaspora who will plan the build out of the industry, through the development of relevant policy, regulatory framework and legislation.

The world took notice in November 2016 when the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the smallest independent country in the Western Hemisphere, was honoured at the 14th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium with two awards for outstanding improvements in information and communication technology (ICT) development.

Remarkably, St. Kitts and Nevis had climbed 20 spots on the International Telecommunication Union’s ICT Development Index for the year 2016 – by far the most improved country.  The second most improved country on the 2016 index was Myanmar, which jumped 13 spots to 140th place.
