MISSING TEEN LOCATED

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 08, 2019 (RSCNPF):Fourteen-year-old Lerika Moses who was reported missing has been located.

 With the assistance of members of her family, the Police were able to find Lerika and took her into Police custody. She is unharmed and in good health. The Police will work along with Child Protection and Probation Services to further their investigations.

 

The Police would like to thank all the persons who assisted with this matter.

ST. KITTS-NEVIS SPECIAL OLYMPICS TEAM HEADS TO ABU DHABI FOR 2019 SUMMER GAMES
Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 07, 2019 (SKNIS): Thirteen athletes from St. Kitts and Nevis accompanied by their coaches and other officials departed the RLB International Airport for Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on March 06 to participate in the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games to take place from March 14 – 21.

Chair of the Board of Directors for Special Olympics St Kitts and Nevis, Ms. Clarice Cotton, said that the team was very lucky this year to gain sponsorship from the government in the form of air fare to and from the UAE for the athletes, and donations from other agencies for uniforms and other expenses.

CONTRIBUTIONS OF WOMEN IN SOCIETY GO FAR BEYOND BILLABLE HOURS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 07, 2019 (SKNIS): The government’s weekly programme, “Working For You”, on March 06, hosted a lively discussion on the role of women in the workplace and their significant unwaged contributions to society.

Mrs. Ingrid Charles-Gumbs, Former Director of Gender Affairs, said women are still positioned at the lower end of the labour market in a number of territories and are choosing careers that do not have great remuneration packages.

“Women are nurses, social workers, teachers…a lot of areas in which women are positioned in large numbers are areas in which salaries are not great,” she said, adding that there needs to be more encouragement for women to join more profitable fields such as engineering and surgical care that will “help them to move up economically.”

CIVIL AVIATION DIVISION HOSTS FIRST EVER NATIONAL INSPECTOR COURSE
Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 07, 2019 (SKNIS): The Civil Aviation Division (CAD) within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Aviation is hosting its first National Inspector Course (NIC) with the aim of building capacity of persons responsible for conducting quality control activities within their entities.

The training is a requirement of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standard 3.4 of the ICAO Annex 17 and runs from March 05-11, 2019.
