Labour MP fears new PAC legislation will undermine accountability, transparency and good governance

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, AUGUST 9Th 2017 – Member of Parliament, Hon. Marcella Liburd has expressed concern that proposed Public Accounts Committee (PAC) legislation by the Team Unity Government of Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris could place restrictions on government official who can appear before the watchdog committee which ensures accountability, transparency and good governance.

Douglas has welcomed professional opinion on the highly controversial decision of the Timothy Harris Team Unity Government (TUG) to build a new Basseterre High School (BHS) on the Basseterre Valley Aquifer but called upon the people of Basseterre and its environs to protect the island’s major source of drinking water.

PM Harris accuses Mark Brantley of presiding over “a non functioning Public Accounts Committee”

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, AUGUST 7TH 2017 – Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, has slammed his Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Mark Brantley, for presiding over a “non-functioning  Public Accounts Committee” when he was its chairman for nearly 8 years (2007 to 2015).
The irony is that Prime Minister Harris and his Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Shawn Richards, were also members of the last Public Accounts Committee from 2010 to 2015.

Third Chinese supermarket robbed in two weeks

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, AUGUST 7TH 2017 – Another Chinese supermarket was robbed Sunday….the third Chinese-owned supermarket in the past two weeks.
A video circulating on social media shows two armed and masked  bandits entering the David Lee Supermarket in New Road on Sunday afternoon around 4 ‘o’ clock.
It was immediately know how much money was stolen or how many patrons were in the supermarket at the time.
Robbery of a second Chinese supermarket was also confirmed on Sunday. The “Best Grocery” on the corner of Central Street and Shaw Avenue in Basseterre was robbed two Wednesdays ago.
On Wednesday 2nd August, the Daily Foods outlet in Russell Village was robbed for the fourth time.
Police have issued no reports on these incidents.
