KITTS, JUNE 2ND, 2017 (PRESS SEC) – Safeguarding the public’s respect and confidence in St. Kitts and Nevis’ security forces is a priority of Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris’ administration, which has established robust policies and procedures to protect the integrity of law enforcement agencies and officers.

“When the public has confidence in the integrity of our security forces, this leads to better information-sharing by them with regard to criminal activity,” Prime Minister Harris said during his press conference on Wednesday, May 31st, 2017 while discussing stricter recruitment vetting in the Ministry of National Security.

Second Woman Shot Dead In Nevis

Police have since issued the following report:

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 03, 2017(RSCNPF) Investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit are investigating a shooting incident that was reported at 10.55pm, on Friday (June 02) in Church Ground Nevis that resulted in the murder of one person.

The victim is identified as Lydia Jacobs, a 37 year old female.

Investigations revealed that Ms. Jacobs was shot in the yard of her residence by an unknown assailant(s).  She was taken to the Alexandria Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Car Crashes Into Fishing Boat

The Traffic Department is investigating a single vehicle accident Saturday morning where a car jumped a curb side walk in Newtown and crashed into a fishing boat on that same side.

Sometime after 10:00 am, a rental car R908 was traveling westerly along the Bay Road in the Newtown area, when in swerved off the road and crashed into a fishing boat and wall on the sea-side of the busy road.

The vessel was grounded on the side of the road at the time of impact.

 

EMS did respond to the accident although no one at the scene appeared to be injured.

The car was extensively damaged at the front and the rear of the boat received the brunt of the impact.

POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING IN TAYLOR’S VILLAGE

Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 04, 2017(RSCNPF) The second victim of a shooting incident that was reported at 9.45pm, on Saturday (June 03) in Taylor’s Village died on Saturday night while undergoing treatment at the Joseph N. France General Hospital.

The victims are identified as Sean Smith, (41), of Taylor’s Village and Dennis Liburd, (46) , of Lower West West Bourne ghaut

Liburd, Drew add voice to hundreds opposed to Team Unity plans to build new High School on Basseterre Aquifer

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, June 1, 2017 – Opposition parliamentarians have been weighing in public outrage denouncing plans by the Team Unity Government to construct a new Basseterre High School (BHS) on lands of the Basseterre Aquifer.

St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party chairperson, Hon. Marcella Liburd, MP for St. Christopher 2 (Central Basseterre) Wednesday described the Team Unity Government plans as “a callous and irresponsible act to build any high school on the water table.”
