DPP Drops Attempted Murder Case Against Jamal Heath

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN); Jahmal Heath has been freed of charges of attempted murder and wounding with intent after the Director of Public Prosecutions withdrew the matter on Thursday (Mar 30).

Heath was charged with the offences in December 2011 when he allegedly shot at and wounded another young man in the Bird Rock area. He was represented by defense attorney Dr. Henry Browne QC and his team.

DPP Valston Graham told the magistrate that he was discontinuing the matter as three of the main witnesses who dealt with the identification evidence were police officers at the time but they are no longer with the Police Force and appear to be out of the jurisdiction as all efforts to locate them proved futile.

The DPP said the offence took place in 2011 and it is now 2017, therefore the unavailability of the witnesses meant he had no choice but to discontinue the prosecution. He asked that the accused be discharged, which the judge granted

Shot Fired At Suspected Burglar Near Pelican Mall

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN); Police have confirmed a shooting incident near the Pelican Mall in Basseterre early Thursday morning Mar 30).

Information reaching WINN FM is that a law enforcement unit responded to a report of a possible break in at the Pelican Mall around 4am and when they arrived, saw an individual running towards Independence Square. The officers gave chase and in the process fired one shot, however the individual managed to escape the area.

There were no reports of injury.

WINN FM understands that the person who discharged his weapon is a member of the Defense Force.

Up until press time, it was not revealed which store in the mall had been targeted by the would-be burglar.

Restaurant Week Mystery Ingredient Revealed: YAM

BASSETERRE (30TH March, 2017): The buzz for the St. Kitts-Nevis Restaurant Week 2017 has begun, with the announcement that yams will be this year’s theme ingredient.

Now in its third year, Restaurant Week highlights the rich culinary culture of St. Kitts-Nevis.  Special menus with exquisite selected dishes, fixed price dinner menus, and lunch time specials at reduced prices, are showcased from the 19th to 30th July, 2017

Restaurants will prepare special dishes with yams, which is showcased throughout Restaurant Week.  In 2015 the theme ingredient was the local breadfruit, and in 2016 it was the local pumpkin. These ingredient are chosen to support local farmers, by raising demand for the commodities.

Minister of Tourism, The Hon. Lindsay F.P. Grant, said Restaurant Week afforded the destination the opportunity for visitors and locals to revel in a uniquely Kittitian and Nevisian experience – a love of good food, enjoyed with great friends and family.

“Restaurant Week is indeed a celebration of our culinary culture, while at the same time promoting the sourcing of locally grown ingredients ” Minister Grant said. “Whether you’re looking for a local feast, such as goat water and saltfish, or five star dinning experience; St. Kitts and Nevis can satisfy your every craving.”

St. Kitts & Nevis offers a rich culinary culture, fused with island ingenuity and ‘old world’ traditions. Passionate chefs create cuisine that shines with fresh-off-the-boat seafood and island-grown produce while restaurateurs dream up ever more magical settings to enjoy it all.

Wanted Man Captured, Police Want Another Young Man

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN); After issuing a wanted person bulletin for 33-year-old Shane Amory of New Road on Friday afternoon (Mar 31), saying that a warrant was in existence for his arrest, police informed later that same evening that he had been taken into custody.

WINN FM understands Amory was arrested at his home without incident. He was charged with the March 21 building breaking and larceny at Boozies bar on the Frigate Bay Strip. Diondre Browne of New Road was also charged with building breaking and larceny for the same incident

Police have issued another wanted person bulletin, this time for Calvin Archibald, known as Cal. Archibald is known to reside at Upper Cayon and Sandy Point.

Police described Archibald as a “person of interest” who should be considered armed and dangerous.

Man Charged With Sexual Assaults In West Farm, Camps

St. Kitts and Nevis (WINN); Police have formally charged the person taken into custody for the burglaries and sexual assaults reported in the West Farm and Camps areas two weeks prior.

According to police the man was charged with two counts of Burglary and two counts of a sexual offence in relation to the March 13 incidents.

Police have not released the individual’s name in accordance with the law as it relates to offences that are sexual in nature.

The Police High Command has praised the investigators and forensic team for the charges being brought, saying it was a result of good investigative work and forensics analysis.

Coming out of the local courts, a number of persons were granted bail for various criminal charges.

Dion Paul of Cayon who was charged with Possession of Cannabis was granted bail in the sum of $5000, and Glenford Percival of New Road who was charged with Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Supply was also granted bail in the sum of $5000. Both are to return to court on May 8th.

Ziron Battice of West Street, Newtown who was charged with the offence of Inflicting Grievous Bodily Harm, was granted bailed in the sum of $25,000.

The young man also has to report to the Basseterre Police Station every Monday and Friday and to have no contact with the virtual complainant.

WINN FM understands Battice was arrested and charged after he viciously beat a female who had an altercation with his girlfriend on March 22nd.

In matters at the Dieppe Bay Magistrate Court Glenroy Henderson of Wingfield Road, Old Road who was charged for wounding, was found guilty and fined $3000 to be paid by April 27, or in default serve one month in prison.
