High Commissioner of Canada to Dominica Lilian Chatterjee had a meeting with Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and discussed vital issues, including climate action plans and making the economy resilient.

This meeting was more concentrated on deepening the friendly and bilateral relationships between Canada and Dominica.

The heir to the British throne, Prince Charles, arrived at the Grantley Adams International Airport late Sunday for a two-day visit as Barbados declares itself a republic.

The two-day trip will also see him carrying out a brief programme of engagements before returning to the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

Teachers at West St. George Secondary School (WSGSS) are expected to write to the Ministry of Education Monday over concerns that the government’s vaccine mandate could see educators lose their jobs and accrued benefits.

The teachers have warned that they are prepared to continue their “sit-in” which they started last Friday if the Ministry of Education refuses to meet with them.

Omicron may be ‘major blow’ to tourism, warns minister

A newly detected variant of the Covid-19 virus has caused the government to express concern about the impact it may have on the country’s tourism industry.

On Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a classification of the Omicron (B.1.1.529): SARS-CoV-2 strain on its website, calling it a “variant of concern”.

Omicron was discovered in South Africa on November 24.

In the 1940s, around 400 men and women from the Caribbean boarded the George Washington ship for the United States. They landed in New York and took a train into Montreal, Canada, where they voluntarily enlisted to fight in World War II.

Canada was under British rule at the time and some loyal subjects of the British Empire who felt obligated to defend it against the Nazis, headed there to receive military training.
