2019 VOLUNTEER CORPS URGED TO EMULATE POSITIVE LEADERS IN THEIR LIVES
 
Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 08, 2019 (SKNIS): Approximately 183 individuals from St. Kitts and Nevis were urged to emulate local personalities who play positive roles in their lives, as well as to volunteer more whenever and wherever necessary.
 
The point was made by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, William V. Hodge, during the Orientation and Training Session for the 2019 Volunteer Corp on Friday, February 8, 2019.

UN Ambassador Sam Condor Attends FOWPAL Summit in New York
On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, Permanent Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations, His Excellency Sam Condor, attended the Federation of World Peace and Love Summit (FOWPAL) at the United Nations in New York.

FOWPAL was established in the United States in 2000 by Dr. Hong, Tao-Tze. FOWPAL was founded as a Non-Governmental Organization whose sole purpose is to actively spread the idea of love and peace and promote world peace through various means, including cultural exchanges and solemn ceremonies of ringing the Bell of World Peace and Love. The February 5, 2019, Summit was co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of Equatorial Guinea to the United Nations.

One Hundred and Eighty-Three Persons Inducted into 2019 Volunteer Corps

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 08, 2019 (SKNIS): One hundred and eighty-three persons were welcomed into the 2019 Volunteer Corps during an orientation and training session held at the Conference Room of the Department of Agricultural on Friday, February 08.

The Corps was introduced in 2018 by the Department of Youth Empowerment. One hundred and forty-one of the volunteers are tertiary school students who receive grant funding via the Supporting Advancement of Further Education (SAFE) programme. Forty-two of the volunteers are residents who stepped forward to give of their service.

POLICE INVESTIGATING SHOOTING INCIDENT IN SHADWELL

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 08, 2019 (RSCNPF): Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the Shadwell area in which one person was shot and injured.

Police received the report of the incident at about 8:22 a.m. Friday morning (February 08) and responded immediately. Investigations so far have revealed that 25-year-old Kareem Hendricks was shot in his forearm by a lone gunman.
