ST. KITTS-NEVIS GOVERNMENT TO OBSERVE ITS FOURTH ANNIVERSARY IN OFFICE WITH A WIDE RANGE OF ACTIVITIES

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, February 8, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Team Unity Government of St. Kitts and Nevis will be hosting several weeks of holistic events and activities for citizens and residents of all ages, in recognition of the administration’s fourth anniversary since being elected to office on February 16, 2015.

The Government’s fourth anniversary celebrations, which run from Monday 11 to Sunday 24 February, will be observed under the theme “TEAM UNITY-Turning Dreams into Reality in every Community!”

The first event, slated for Monday, February 11 at 9am, is a tour and walkthrough at the C.A. Paul Southwell Industrial Site where Cabinet members are expected to visit the various manufacturing plants and interact with employees there.

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, February 8, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis is experiencing a peaceful industrial climate, and Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris is attributing it to the Labour Department’s constructive role and responsible engagement in labour matters.

“We consider we have a very peaceful industrial climate and that has been largely to the fact that the Labour Department has been a respected and responsible mediator in matters of industrial relations,” said Prime Minister Harris. “Indeed their own involvement in the Lutron Liamuiga Ltd matter resulted in the workers there being offered the most attractive redundancy and long service benefits ever been provided by an entity.”

SEARCH OF ABANDONED HOUSE YIELDS RESULTS

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 08, 2019 (RSCNPF): A quantity of drugs were seized by the Police during a joint search operation Thursday morning (February 07).

Officers from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and Soldiers from the St. Kitts and Nevis Defense Force uncovered 325 grams of cocaine and 111 grams of cannabis that were hidden in an abandoned house in the Newtown area. No one was held accountable for the find, but Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.

The Police have pledged to continue their efforts to eradicate the trade of illegal firearms and drugs from communities within the federation.

MINISTRY OF TOURISM PROMOTES RECYCLING AS PART OF ITS “PLASTIC FREE LEGACY” INITIATIVE

Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 08, 2019 (SKNIS): The Ministry of Tourism’s “Plastic Free July” initiative, which was launched in 2018, is continuing with a renewed campaign dubbed “Plastic Free Legacy” with the aim of substantially reducing the number of single use plastics in the Federation and thereby minimizing plastic pollution.

While speaking on the government’s weekly programme, “Working for You”, on February 06, Assistant Secretary and Chairperson of the Sustainable Destination Council, Diannille Taylor-Williams, encouraged persons to reduce the use of plastics in their everyday life through means such as recycling.

Photos 1, 2 and 3: The Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, and members of his high-level delegation to Montevideo, Uruguay met with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, today, Thursday, February 7^th, 2019.

The Caribbean delegation’s conversation with the EU’s Foreign Policy Chief came a day after CARICOM, Mexico and Uruguay, following a meeting in Montevideo, released details of their plan to resolve Venezuela’s political crisis. The plan, referred to as the Montevideo Mechanism, entails a four-part approach, which comprises dialogue, negotiation, commitments and implementation phases.
