OWNER OF PRIVATE JET TERMINAL AT RLB INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN ST. KITTS, DR. UDAY NAYAK, DENIES OPPOSITION’S PROPAGANDA

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 3, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Dr. Denzil Douglas-led Opposition St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party is once again being exposed for its deception and dishonesty all aimed at creating mischief and destabilizing the sustained growth and development the twin island Federation has been experiencing over the last three years under the Team Unity Government.

Late last week, the Opposition party posted an article on its Facebook page suggesting, among other things, that concerns with the security management at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport resulted in the loss of a contract and significant financial loss for the private terminal – now renamed KayanJet FBO Services – which in turn led to one of its partners ending its relationship with the business.

Dr. Uday Nayak, the Co-founder of the Veling Group, which operates the private terminal, has since publicly refuted those claims by the Opposition as “factually incorrect”.

In a statement to a regional news agency, Dr. Nayak confirmed that the terminal had indeed changed hands and has since been renamed.

“As Co-founder of the Veling Group, I have parted ways with the other founder and as such the ownership of KayanJet now rests with me,” Dr. Nayak said, while stating clearly that “The reason for this change has nothing to do with the reason reported on the Facebook page.”

Dr. Nayak also reiterated that KayanJet, as a top-of-the-range FBO, complies with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) security requirements and will continue to offer all products and services as hitherto. He further assured that KayanJet FBO Services will strive to ensure that St. Kitts remains a much-favoured destination for all visitors to the Caribbean region.

He added, “As the sole owner of KayanJet, I remain committed as an investor in St. Kitts and Nevis and contributing to the development of this beautiful island in any which way I can.”

The erroneous reports being peddled by the Opposition also sought to suggest that the country stands to lose a host of its international flights as a result of security management concerns at the RLB International Airport expressed by the US-based Transportation Security Administration (TSA) following an inspection of the facility in 2017.

Minister responsible for the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA), the Honourable Ian Patches Liburd, has since refuted those claims and labelled the reports as “fake news” aimed at distracting the people from the positive work of the Government.

The good work of the Government includes the construction of the second cruise pier at Port Zante, the commencement of the island main road rehabilitation project, the relocation of the Public Works Department’s Vehicle Maintenance Division and the subsequent construction of the East Line Bus Terminal, as well as the continued roll out of the Government’s vital housing programme.

FORMER ACP READY FOR NEW POST AS HEAD OF IMMIGRATION

Basseterre, St. Kitts, July 03, 2018 (RSCNPF): Former Assistant Commissioner of Police, Merclyn Hughes, is excited about her new post and has committed to carrying out her duties with integrity and vigor.

She officially became the new Chief of Immigration on July 02, 2018 and will head the Department of Immigration as the Government moves to separate the entity from the Police Force. Ms. Hughes has indicated that she is ready to meet the challenge head on.

“I give God thanks for this opportunity to serve my people in another capacity as Chief Immigration Officer. It is still a form of law enforcement, which is my first love, after God…I expect to serve in my new capacity for as long as I am required to be there. It is a challenge, it will be a challenge, but I do not believe it is more than me and I’m going to give it my very, very best and I know I have the support of the men and women of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF). I will be working very closely with them as I continue to give God thanks,” said Ms. Hughes.

Having enlisted as a Police Officer in December 1979, Ms. Hughes boasts an impressive stint with the force of 38 years. She was an Inspector of Police for six years before being promoted to Superintendent of Police in March 2012.  In January 2013, she was named Head of the Strategic Intelligence Unit (SIU). In 2016, she was promoted to the post of Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for the newly established Administration, Resources, Technology and Intelligence (ART-I) Directorate and had the task of overseeing the implementation of the first phase of the close-circuit television (CCTV) project, among other things. The move was historic, as she became the first female Officer to be appointed as a member of the High Command of the Force. Over the years, Ms. Hughes has had a special focus on Strategic Intelligence Leadership.

Her newest role was announced last week. Commissioner Queeley and the other members of the Police High Command expressed their sadness at her departure, but congratulated her on her promotion and noted their confidence in her ability to lead the new entity. There has also been an outpouring of congratulatory messages and words of encouragement from her colleagues in the RSCNPF, many revealing that she has been a role model and inspiration to them.

IMF Officials Meet With Opposition Members, Economy & Other Matters Discussed

On Friday 29th June 2018, officials from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met with members of the Parliamentary Opposition to discuss matters of national importance to its members.

The Parliamentary Opposition raised a number of national concerns with the IMF officials and also expressed their views on the current status of the Federation’s economy.

In an effort to craft a balanced advisory report, the IMF officials keenly took note of the Opposition’s concerns over St Kitts-Nevis’ rate of economic decline, Dr Timothy Harris’ coalition administration’s failure to resolve the land-for-debt arrangement, the status of the citizenship by investment programme, and a host of other matters of great national interest.

The officials were largely receptive to the Opposition’s contributions on these matters and graciously thanked the members present at the meeting.

The Parliamentary Opposition, specifically the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, intends to discuss the details of this meeting in depth in the near future.
