All St. Kitts and Nevis students in Taiwan safe
Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 7, 2018 – Djavan Martin and the other 49 St. Kitts and Nevis students from St. Kitts and Nevis studying in the Republic of China (Taiwan) are all safe following a powerful earthquake on Tuesday night.
“My son lives in Hualien, Taiwan, and has marked himself safe, thank God. I am scared but I am praying for him and all in this area, including some of our students here. Thinking of you, Djavan Kayode Martin and praying for the safety of all,” wrote Patricia Martin, his mother and wife of Dr. Patrick Martin.
St. Kitts and Nevis’ Leader of the Opposition and former Prime Minister, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas in expressing sympathy on the loss of life and damage, requested the authorities to find out the status of St. Kitts and Nevis students.
Resident Ambassador to the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, His Excellency, George Gow Wei Chiou, has informed that all St. Kitts and Nevis nationals are safe.
He said 10 nationals attend universities in Hualien are also safe.
Focus Taiwan has reported that the military is conducting search and rescue missions. Seven people have been killed and over 250 injured. Over 60 people are yet unaccounted for.
