PM Harris slammed over EC$800 daily for dialysis treatment; hospital patients complain bitterly of service
Basseterre, St. Kitts, February 12, 2018 – A caller to WINNFM’s Inside the News says it is a “strange dichotomy,” that while St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, boasts of a “booming economy,” his government charges ordinary citizens huge sums daily for dialysis treatment at the J. N. France General Hospital.
“Yet his Minister of Health (Wendy Phipps) is saying that ordinary citizens must pay EC$800 daily for dialysis” at the J. N. France General Hospital.
“The government has its priorities wrong,” said the caller.
St. Kitts’ JNF Hospital officially opened its haemodialysis unit with three (3) dialysis machines and accompanying water filtration system on September 6, 2013 under the auspices of Minister of Health Hon. Marcella Liburd
While the Team Unity Government continues to mislead the nation with glowing headlines, patients at the J, N. France General Hospital, continue to complain bitterly of the deficiencies at the hospital, which is celebrating its golden jubilee this year.
“Just imagine, I am in the hospital since Wednesday ain’t have a pillow up to now and on a bed that don’t work so I can’t go up and down and they know my condition. I need back and neck support. The sheets well want change. Every day they telling me tomorrow, tomorrow,” wrote KikiSagitariusqueen Rawlins on her FaceBook page.
Like many patients who have been warded at the J N France General Hospital, Rawlins also complained about the shortage of nurses, lack of supplies including toilet paper and medication, pointing out that when patients are discharged “they still sending you these dam bills when they done treat you like a dam dog. This place is ridiculous. This place needs to be looked into.”
Sunday night, Granny, a popular passenger bus driver and chef circulated a voice note stating: “I up the hospital and they want paper towel and toilet paper.” His Parliamentary Representative is the Minister of Health, Hon. Eugene Hamilton.
