Breaking It Down- Harris’ Government Nepotistic Ways At Its Highest Says Dr. Drew

“Enough is enough,” says Dr. Terrance Drew, constituency number eight caretaker for the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), while recounting a number of acts he deems as injustices committed by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis, more so, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Timothy Harris.

Dr. Drew’s comments came out of his presentation during the SKNLP’s second press conference for this year, 2018, earlier today, February 28th 2018.

A passionate Drew encouraged persons of the community to speak out and up of the devious and nepotistic acts being committed by the Harris-led government.

In a breakdown, the Labour candidate defined nepotism, as a means to educate persons on what he says is unjust and greedy.

“Nepotism as definition is favoritism shown to relatives or close friends by those with power or influence. …Nepotism goes against fairness and justice.”

Drew said the Harris-led government continues to practice rampant nepotism at unprecedented levels in St. Kitts and Nevis.

This is seen as a major hindrance for persons in the community earning a good job, or a job at all, as they are not in any circle with Harris or any member of the government, be it a family member or a friend.

“Many qualified persons can’t get jobs because they are not family or very close friends of Timothy Harris!”

In giving examples of Harris’ blatant nepotism, Dr. Drew made mention of various instances where Harris’ family were quickly and wrongfully promoted to positions.

*-In Development bank, Harris’ brother is now the CEO. Two assistant managers were immediately let go, following the brother’s promotion.

*-At the government’s payroll office, Harris’ sister was put in the position. Harris’ sister is less qualified and less experienced than the persons who she replaced.

*-Another sister of Prime Minister Harris was hired as a Magistrate of the Court. The position was never advertised, thus allowing other qualified lawyers to apply. Harris hand-picked his sister and placed her in that position. This is a breach of standard procedure.

*-The Chairman of St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank is Harris’ nephew. This is another critical position in the Federation being supervised by another family member of Prime Minister Harris.

*-Another brother of Harris brother was promoted as Chief Prison Officer in Her Majesty’s prison. He was hand-picked for this position as well.

*-Another nephew of Harris’ was hired as butler and a Gardner. In his role, he is making over $5000 per month. He is being paid more than some senior civil servants in government and even more than some doctors working at the hospital.

Drew also disclosed that many of Harris’s family members are given access to purchase land at very low costs.

“This type of nepotism is hurting our people. They see that there is no fairness or justice in the system. What’s the justification for this action? The country must ask, is this fair?”

Persons of the community are being encouraged to pressure the government for what they deserve and stand up against their nepotistic and greedy antics.
