“What About Our Health?”- Constituents To Hamilton
Hon. Eugene Hamilton has come under fire from his constituents who are strongly of the view that their elected representative is proving to be nothing more than a dust-catching ornament in the PAM/CCM/PLP government.
Residents of constituency number eight and more so, those of the Cayon area, are furious with Hamilton following the recent ground-breaking ceremony of a major health center in Tabernacle.
This, constituents expressed, is seen as a major disrespect because Hamilton serves as the senior Minister of Health and persons are now noting the vast difference in life in Cayon as opposed to in Tabernacle.
Dr. Terrance Drew, representative of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party also expressed that he is disappointed in Hamilton for having allowed the center to slip through his hands only to end up where it would not be fully utilized.
Dr. Drew has long joined with other persons of the community in highlighting that Cayon, which is three to four times larger than tabernacle, as the ideal place for a health center of that size.
The location of the health center was ultimately another political decision by Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris.
Dr. Drew said, “Instead of Eugene Hamilton arguing that Cayon should have the larger health care center because of the number of persons they serve, the health center has gone to Tabernacle.”
Dr. Drew continued, “It is a political decision and one not based on health policy. If it was based on health policy, that larger health center would have gone where the population is much bigger. Look at the small center in Cayon with an expanding population and in Tabernacle, where there is a much smaller population, a large health center; it’s not going to be utilized to its full extent.”
