SKNLP Condemns UK’s Operation Windrush
Thousands of Caribbean-born men and women are being threatened by deportation after decades of living in the United Kingdom under Operation Windrush.
This situation came to light following a tightening of the immigration rules under Hon. Theresa May as Home Secretary, where many who journeyed to the UK in the decades following the Second World War – often as schoolchildren – have faced removal unless they can prove they are entitled to remain in the country.
The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) has ruled the entire ordeal as diabolical and heartless.
Speaking on national radio this week, SKNLP Chair, Hon. Marcella Liburd said, “This is really an injustice that is being perpetrated against Caribbean nationals, some of whom answered the call to rebuild England following the losses it suffered in World War II.”
Hon. Liburd said, “We the SKNLP want to express our strongest condemnation of Operation Windrush. We are very much concerned with the persons who have lived and worked in the UK for over fifty and sixty years and paying taxes, and are being denied access to health care, their pensions and are being put out of their jobs. This is really an injustice…”
MP Liburd went on to acknowledge and credit the apology given by Hon. Theresa May, Prime Minister of the UK.
“We welcome the apology given by Prime Minister Theresa May. I sincerely hope that her assurance and corrective measures will help to alleviate the humiliation, pain, suffering, and trauma experienced by so many Caribbean nationals living in the UK, including persons from St. Kitts and Nevis.
