Dr. Drew promises local nurses better working conditions under the next Labour government
Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 10, 2018 – Expressing thanks and appreciation to all nurses in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) candidate for St. Christopher 8, Dr. Terrance Drew noted that despite appalling working conditions the nation’s nightingales are performing their duties under “difficult and trying circumstances.”

Lamenting the poor conditions under which the nurses presently work in their effort to provide a high-level of service to their patients, Dr. Drew, a Cuban and U.S. trained physician, gave an undertaking that the next Labour Party administration will address all those issues.
“Sometimes there are just two nurses working on a ward with many, many patients at the J N France General Hospital,” said Dr. Drew, who noted the nurses also work at times without the necessary tools.
“They work hard. They go beyond the call of duty,” said Dr. Drew.
Admitting he is fully aware of some criticism, the internist suggested members of the pubic “spend one day with a nurse at the JNF Hospital and you will understand how tremendously challenging it can be.”
Expressing a Happy Nurses Day to all the nurses, Dr. Drew promised that “better will come.”
“You will have the opportunity in a few months to vote for a better working environment and improved conditions. I am asking you to stay focused and to vote for the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party. You are assured that this party will ensure a vast improvement in your working conditions,” he said during Wednesday’s “Issues” programme on Freedom 106.5 FM.
Dr. Drew said the next minister of health in the next Labour Government will never accuse nurses of theft.
“The several burning issues that affect your professionalism as nurses will have to be addressed. The present conditions that you presently work under just cannot continue,” he said.
