Virdee-Antigua-St. Kitts Bribery Scandal erodes whatever little respect is left for Timothy Harris
Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 17, 2018 – Are we fast becoming like Cuba, Iran and North Korea, where people are directed to stand and cheer on the leader publicly?
That is the question veteran broadcaster and businessman, Canady Brown is asking following the release of a voice note from a high ranking Team Unity Government supporter and civil servant calling on attendees of the Caribbean Investment Summit at the St. Kitts Marrott to give a standing ovation when Prime Minister Timothy Harris’ name is mentioned.
“The backlash to the bribery scandal as appeared in a judgement handed down in a London court is so thunderous that the TUG wants to demonstrate the PM is loved and supported, especially after calls by the opposition and multitudes of ordinary citizens at home and abroad for Dr. Timothy (DT) to step down as Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Browne in an analysis.
“DT while still popular in his constituency is widely unpopular throughout the rest of the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis,” said Browne on social media Thursday.
He is of the view that the disclosure by the Royal Court of Justice in London “only aids in further eroding whatever little respect is left for DT. Standing and cheering by a handful of his supporters will not restore his dwindling credibility, nor popularity.”
“No amount of money, expensive watch, or shoes will make people love someone,” Mr. Browne opined.
