MP Liburd earned election as Deputy Political leader
Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 28, 2018 – The new chairman of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Dr. Terrance Drew says the Labour Party’s first female Deputy Political Leader, Hon. Marcella Liburd, has earned the position “through hard work, commitment and dedication over the years.”
“Women of this country must know that we are serious about women in leadership. Women have equal opportunity in this organization. Marcella Liburd gives great hope to the woman folk not only of our organization, but our country,” said Dr. Drew.
He pointed out that Ms. Liburd’s election as Deputy Political Leader made history where the delegates broke the glass ceiling.
“Her mother the late Ann Liburd was an advocate for women rights in this country. She fought for the equality of women, even Louis Farrakhan had to mention his admiration for Ann. Her work no doubt has resulted in this historic moment in our party’s history and I dare say in our country,” said Dr. Drew, the Labour Party’s candidate for St. Christopher 8.
Liburd, a lawyer, is a former Minister of Health, Community and Social Development and Gender Affairs, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Senator.
