PM HARRIS CONGRATULATES ANDRÉS MANUEL LÓPEZ OBRADOR ON BEING ELECTED PRESIDENT OF MEXICO

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 4, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, has extended heartfelt congratulations on behalf of the Government and people of the Federation to the new President of the United Mexican States, His Excellency Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

President López Obrador won the July 1 presidential elections after garnering approximately 53 percent of the votes – 30 percentage points more than the second placed candidate.

Prime Minister Harris, in a congratulatory letter to President López Obrador, said that his victory in Sunday’s presidential election demonstrated the “confidence and strong support that the Mexican people have in your commitment to fight corruption, and to promote fiscal discipline and social equality. As your administration embarks on this new journey, I wish you unity, peace, success and prosperity.”

The St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister also commented on the strong fraternal bond that exists between both countries as a result of mutual interests, common values and goals.

“Therefore, it is my wish that under your governance, our bonds of friendship will be further strengthened through partnerships and cooperation,” Dr. Harris added.

St. Kitts and Nevis and Mexico officially established diplomatic relations in July 1990.

Prime Minister Harris further noted that through sustained dialogue, St. Kitts and Nevis and Mexico will continue to work closely, not only to strengthen our bilateral relationship but also to make further contributions to multilateral pursuits aimed at promoting good governance, rule of law, citizen security, economic growth and social equity.
