PM’s Health Walk in Constituency Three was an opener says PLP’s Deputy National Political Leader

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, July 23, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — In April 2007 the Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Seven, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, started monthly walk-throughs in the various communities as constituents wanted to see more of their representative while he needed to personally know everyone in the constituency.

The well-loved Dr Harris Constituency Number Seven Health Walk that took participants from the Belle Vue bus stop to Ottley’s hard courts each month evolved from these community walk-throughs. Last year, with the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) powering the event, the health walk was renamed the Prime Minister’s Monthly Health Walk and took a national outlook as it started being held in other constituencies as well.

The latest Prime Minister’s Monthly Health Walk which was held on Saturday July 21 in Constituency Number Three brought back a sense of nostalgia, as it took the participants through the different communities in the West Basseterre area.

Attracting a large turnout of health conscious enthusiasts, the participants led by Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris set off from the Greenlands Pasture, crossed the F.T. Williams Highway and went up into the Shadwell Estate area, and over into LaGuerite Heights, then into Buckley’s Extension. They again crossed the F.T. Williams Highway and went through Buckley’s Estate, unto the Island Main Road then down into Camps Village before joining the Island Main Road at the University of Health and Medical Sciences and made their way to Boyd’s.

“The feedback we received was that more persons truly enjoyed this walk because it gave persons an opportunity to actually visit a number of different communities within West Basseterre that some didn’t even know may have existed,” said Chairperson of the PLP Constituency Number Three Branch Executive, the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett. “And so for us it was good having given persons that opportunity to see a different side of Constituency Number Three that they may not necessarily have able to see before.”

According to the Hon Byron-Nisbett, who is also the PLP’s Deputy National Political Leader, there were a number of new faces who attended the walk this time around adding that for the most part the persons truly enjoyed this edition of the PM’s Monthly Health Walk. She appreciated those who came out and exercised as their health is extremely important saying the Prime Minister pushes for healthy living and thus is the reason he leads the way in having the walk each month.

“We would like to encourage persons to continue to come out and participate in these health walks thus ensuring you are able to sustain a healthy living,” said the Hon Byron-Nisbett. She noted that by taking part in the health walk one gets the opportunity to socialise with persons from all constituencies and all walks of life, commenting that it was more than just health physically but it was also mental and emotional as well as one is able to talk with and interact with other persons.

Ms Marizta Dias, PLP Constituency Number Three Executive Branch’s Polling Division Six Representative, started what might end up being an integral part of the Prime Minister’s Health Walks. At 5:15 am while waiting for everyone to assemble at Greenlands, she put those present through a number of warm-up exercises that were greatly appreciated as they both physically and mentally prepared them for the task ahead.

First to arrive at the Boyd’s Lawns at 6:46 am was the pair of 10-year old Master J’Quan Thomas and 12-year old Master Clive Alder from Constituency Number Four, who had led right from the beginning. When asked who placed first, Clive indicated it was J’Quan. Seconds later came in another pair, Ms Melissa Williams of Constituency Number Three and Mr Dwight Warde of Constituency Number Eight. They settled for a joint third position.

Participating in the walk included PLP’s National Chairman Mr Warren Thompson, National Secretary Ms Myrtilla Williams, Youth Arm Representative Mr Manasses Huggins, PLP Party Organiser and Founding Member Mr Alexis Nisbett, Founding PLP Member Mr Antonio Maynard, a host of PLP Branch Executives from the various branches, and members of the host PLP Constituency Number Three Branch Executive. Present as observers included Deputy National Chairman Mr Craig Tuckett, and Deputy National Treasurer Ms Claudette Thompson.
