Help-a-Child founded by PM Harris has made a difference for hundreds of youth

Tomorrow’s 15th Annual Help-a-Child Program Primary School Scholarship Award Ceremony at the Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Bourryeau will see the program’s founder, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, present $500.00 each to 85 primary school students from his Constituency (Saint Christopher 7 – Belle Vue to Ottley’s).

The $42,500.00 in bursaries will bring the total amount awarded to date under the Help-a-Child program to $294,000.00 and will bring the total number of awardees to 588.

Help-a-Child, which was established to assist financially needy students in Constituency #7, enlists the assistance of principals and teachers to identify candidates who demonstrate financial need.

The identification and selection process culminates annually with the Help-a-Child Program Primary School Scholarship Award Ceremony, which is a well-attended event that brings Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris’ kindness and generosity, as well as his Constituents’ high appreciation of him, to the fore.

One of Dr. Harris’ Constituents, Miss Katherina Davis, summed up his impact on her life while giving the vote of thanks at last year’s Help-a-Child award ceremony.  Miss Davis was then the reigning Miss National Carnival Queen.

“Dr. Harris believes education is the best gift that any parent can give a child,” Ms. Myrtilla Williams, the Help-a-Child Program Coordinator, said during a Constituency #7 General Meeting at the Edgar T. Morris Primary School in Tabernacle held on Sunday, October 16th, 2016.

“He knows and understands that the playing field is not leveled for all parents; some have it and some don’t,” Ms. Williams said, further adding, “We can clearly see that he is a man who is serious about education and the advancement of our children.”
