25 years as a parliamentarian: Church honours Prime Minister Harris
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 5, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris was first elected to represent St. Christopher Seven in the National Assembly on November 29, 1993. While the 25th Anniversary celebrations have not officially started, his achievement was recognised on Sunday November 4 by House of Deliverance New Testament Church of God on Main Street Tabernacle which awarded him a commemoration certificate.
A regular church goer, Prime Minister Harris had attended the regular Sunday service along with his aunt Mrs Rosetta ‘Sarah-Jane’ Phipps who is visiting from England, when Senior Pastor Octavia Charles-Warner invited him to the front and anointed him with oil as congregants congratulated him with audible murmurs of ‘hallelujah’.
Pastor Charles-Warner then, on behalf of the church presented Dr Harris with the commemorative certificate which read: ‘Hon Dr Timothy Sylvester Harris, Celebrating 25 years of service as a parliamentarian for Constituency 7. From the Pastor and the members of House of Deliverance N.T.C.O.G. Tabernacle. Signed by Pastor Octavia Charles-Warner.’
Prime Minister Harris who is the National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), one of the three parties in the ruling Team Unity Administration, told congregants that the Constituency Group will be coming to the church on Sunday November 11, which will be the start of the 25th anniversary celebrations.
“I was first elected on the 29th of November way back in 1993, and God has been wonderfully good,” said Dr Harris. “I want to thank all the people who have been there, who have given support and in particular to thank this church and all the churches. This church like so many in the Constituency has been a source of comfort and encouragement. To God be the glory, and may the church prosper.”
Mrs Rosetta ‘Sarah-Jane’ Phipps was accompanied by Mr Tyrone Rufus, Mrs Cecilia Rufus, Miss Janita Rufus, Mr Sylvester Brumant, Mrs Elvena Brumant, Mr Reuben Solomon, Mrs Evangelica Solomon, and Master Jeremiah Solomon, all from England.
She said they were in the Federation having come for the observance of the fourth anniversary of her son’s death, Pastor Edward Phipps, who headed the House of Deliverance New Testament Church of God at the time of his passing.
