Molineux: 2018 Best of the Rest Champions in Constituency #7 Domino League
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, November 8, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Molineux Domino Club on Wednesday evening, November 7, punished Giants Domino Club beating them 13-6 to take Best of the Rest championship in the 23rd edition of the annual Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League competition.
Last year it was won by Unstoppable Domino Club, who this year put up a better show as for the first time they got to the overall semi-finals stage where they took the fourth position.
Molineux and Giants met on Monday November 5 for the first encounter in the finals of Best of the Rest competition in a tight match right from the word go. However, at the end of it Molineux had the edge and took a close 13-12 win.
The scores posted, Molineux beating Giants 13-6 on Wednesday November 7, do not tell the real story of what transpired at the Lodge Community Centre in Lodge Project when the two seasoned teams met with Best of the Rest championship title at stake.
Those who might think that the winning score of 13-6 by Molineux was an even representative of what transpired will be shocked to find out that they were at one time leading 11-0. All they required were a mere two points to carry the match and title. They however slackened, probably driven by overconfidence, and allowed Giants to score six points.
Giants started exerting all they had in their reserves, and took three quick points and at 9:44 pm they had reduced the deficit to 11-3. Molineux scored another point to take the game to 12-3 but at 10:00 pm Giants scored what scorer Hope Bradley called a ‘double whammy’ which saw the points go to 12-5. They were back at 10:06 pm with another point to make it 12-6.
Smelling defeat, Giants players on table two slammed the brakes on Giants at 10:35 pm and scored the all-important point which gave them the well-deserved 13-6 match win, and Best of the Rest championship.
The match which was witnessed by a small crowd had Calvin Farrell as the referee for table one, and Keithly Gaskin as the referee for table two. As usual the hardworking scorers Hope Bradley and Diane Byron-Monzac were on duty. Bradley was the scorer for table one and Byron-Monzac was the scorer for table two.
In the meantime Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris Domino League coordinator, Calvin Farrell, gave notice that the third match in best of three finals that was due to have taken place on Thursday November 8 had been put on hold.
According to Farrell, Parsons Domino Club had sent a protest note in relation to the second match in best of three finals played on Tuesday November 6 where they lost to defending champions Lodge. Parsons had won the first of best of three finals when the two teams met on Thursday November 1.
