First Prime Minister’s Health Walk for 2019 to be held on Saturday February 2
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, January 31, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Prime Minister and Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, is inviting all health-conscious walk enthusiasts to join him on Saturday February 2 and take part in the first Prime Minister’s Health Walk for 2019.
The health walk, which will be held in Constituency Number Seven, will start from Bellevue at 5:30 am. It will traverse the villages of Tabernacle, Mansion, Christchurch, Bourryeau, Lodge, Lodge Project, and will end at Ottley’s hard courts where the participants will be served a healthy breakfast.
The now hugely popular Prime Minister’s Monthly Health Walk, which draws scores of health conscious individuals from across the island of St. Kitts, and even from Nevis, was initiated in April 2007 by the Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Seven, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.
The health walk on Saturday February 2 comes on the heels of the most successful walk ever, which was held on November 17 and dubbed the ‘Legacy Health Walk’ as it was part of celebrations that were held in a three-week period to mark the 25 years of service to Constituency Number Seven and the country by Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.
By participating in the walk, residents of the Federation have been benefitting from the personal efforts of Prime Minister Harris who is also CARICOM’s lead spokesman on human resources, health and HIV matters, as he has ensured that the message he delivers at the regional level is fully embraced at home. The health walks help him to accomplish that goal.
Prime Minister Harris’ efforts in the fight against NCDs received international recognition last year when on Monday September 24 he was one of the speakers at the launch of The Defeat-NCD Partnership at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
The Defeat-NCD Partnership was established in January 2018 to help tackle the most significant global health problem of the age: premature death, sickness, disability, and the associated social and economic impacts of selected non-communicable diseases. The launch, which was held on the margins of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, was held at Conference Room F, United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
