WATER SERVICES DEPARTMENT
MINISTRY OF PUBLIC INFRASTRUCTURE, POST, URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND TRANSPORT
Press Release
Customers of the St. Kitts Water Services Department in the Basseterre, Bird Rock and Frigate Bay areas experienced an interruption in their water supply today due to an unplanned electrical outage in the Basseterre area. This outage adversely affected the water pumps that supply these areas. The time required to rectify the matter resulted in a depletion of stored water in the Morne Peak and LaGuerite Storage Tanks.
The supply has since been restored, however, persons who reside at higher elevations in those areas will still experience very low pressure and, in some cases, have water return much later.
For the purpose of replenishing water in the affected storage tanks to operational levels, the water supply will be interrupted at 10 p.m. tonight, February 16, to the Basseterre, Frigate Bay, Half Moon and South East Peninsular. Supply can be expected to resume tomorrow, Sunday, February 17, at approximately 6 a.m. and full recovery of the system is expected by Monday, February 18.
The management of the St. Kitts Water Services Department deeply regrets and apologises for the inconvenience caused. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
Regards,
Manager/Water Engineer
