GOVERNMENT MINISTERS CALL OUT THE HYPOCRISY OF DR. TERRANCE DREW AND THE OPPOSITION LABOUR PARTY

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 13, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Team Unity-led Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has rubbished the mischief being peddled by the Opposition surrounding the use of the MRI services at the St. Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation.

Responding to a question posed during Tuesday (March 12) Community Consultation meeting at the Cayon Community Centre, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris labelled the noise being created by the Opposition elements as mere political mischief designed to create confusion.

Dr. Harris stated that before the advent of the Team Unity Administration, these critical services were unavailable in the country.

“Before 2015, there was no MRI service available in the country. To get MRI done you had to find money to pay the plane to get to Antigua, St. Maarten or Trinidad and Tobago, be put up overnight and pay high costs,” the prime minister said.

Prime Minister Harris pointed to the hypocrisy of Labour Party candidate, Dr. Terrance Drew, who has been one of the most vocal antagonists against residents using the MRI services on the island, but who refers the most patients to the Lower Bourryeau institution for MRI services.

“If Dr. Drew believes that something is wrong with the quality of service being offered at the St. Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation then why is he sending his patients there?” Dr. Timothy Harris questioned.

The prime minister continued, “He is among the top doctors referring patients to that facility. If he knows there is a quality issue why is he exposing them to what he wants to convey in their mind to obvious harm? There is something unethical about that.”

Meanwhile, Minister of Health, the Honourable Eugene Hamilton, assured nationals that the MRI services being provided at the St. Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation are safe for all and of the highest quality.

The Government ministers revealed that to date, persons from at least 16 different countries have made bookings to receive MRI services at the facility in St. Kitts and Nevis.
