NORMALITY RESTORED AT VC BIRD AIRPORT FOLLOWING HOAX

Minister with responsibility for Civil Aviation, Sir Robin Yearwood has confirmed that normality has been restored at the VC Bird International Airport.

This follows a disruption Friday afternoon as police probed a bomb scare which turned out to have been a hoax.

Minister Yearwood told ABS news a short while ago that an overseas call was made to the switchboard indicating that there was a bomb at the Old Terminal building.

The bomb squad and other law enforcement operatives were called in to investigate, but nothing was found.

The all-clear was received about 7 Friday evening.

As the investigations were being carried out, a British Airways flight was diverted to St Kitts but returned to Antigua and was due to have departed for the UK about 10pm Friday.

Minister Yearwood said the airport’s response in these circumstances was governed by international civil aviation regulations.

He also says investigations will be carried out to find who was behind the hoax.
