Teams from Nevis and Keys register first wins in 2019 Harris Basketball League
BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, September 4, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) — Competition proper in the 2019 edition of the Harris Basketball League (BHL), sponsored by Prime Minister and Area Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, started Tuesday evening September 3 at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex’s basketball court.
Slated for play were two entertaining games that involved two Molineux-based teams facing visiting teams, one from Sister-Island Nevis, and the other from Keys in Constituency Number Eight. Nevis’ Eagles Basketball Cub scored a comfortable win 63-45 over Inner City Young Ballers Basketball Club, while Keys-based Rebels Basketball Club scrapped through with a narrow 59-56 win over Ballaholics Basketball Club.
The first game saw Nevis’ Eagles come up against Inner City Young Ballers. Match’s star player was Trevorn Simmonds of the visiting team who scored 23 points, and made eight defensive rebounds, six offensive rebounds, six assists, three steals, and two blocks. On the home team, Kendrick Williams scored 13 points, and made two defensive rebounds, three offensive rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
Other top players were Craig Angel of Eagles who scored 14 points, and made five defensive rebounds, three offensive rebounds, four assists, and two steals; and Lesroy Benjamin of Inner City Young Ballers who scored 11 points, and made eight defensive rebounds, six offensive rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block.
In the second game, star player was Troy Wattley of Ballaholics who scored 22 points, and made 12 defensive rebounds, eight offensive rebounds, six assists, four steals, and five blocks. For the winning team, Rebels, Justin Bart was the top scorer with 18 points with four assists, and five steals.
Other high performing players in the second game were Simba Hanley of Ballaholics who scored 16 points, and made six defensive rebounds, five offensive rebounds, three assists, two steals, and three blocks; and K’andre Wattley of Rebels by scoring 15 points, and making four defensive rebounds, three offensive rebounds, three assists, and six steals.
The first game was refereed by Troy Roberts, while the second game was refereed by Troy Roberts and Meliesha Caesar.
According to the Harris Basketball League Commissioner, Jarvid ‘Bugga’ Percival, the league continues on Thursday September 5 also with two games, Street Ballers vs. Jamballers; and Sandy Point Falcons vs. Tuff Ballerz; and on Saturday September 7 also with two games, Runnerz vs. Eagles Nevis; and Ballahollics vs. Jamballers.
