Nationals want NEXTGEN Labour leaders to hold town hall meetings in their cities, islands Basseterre, St Kitts, October 28, 2019 – Following three extremely successful town hall meetings with Kittitians and Nevisians residing in London and Birmingham, England and Ontario, Canada by the leadership of the NextGEN SKN of the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), nationals in the diaspora are clamouring for similar sessions to be held in their cities or islands.
Leader of the Opposition, the Rt Hon Dr Denzil L Douglas, the other seven candidates and party officials, have been inundated with texts, WhatsApp messages and telephone calls from nationals living in New York and Miami in the USA, Manchester and Leeds in the United Kingdom, Virgin Gorda and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, St Thomas and St Croix in the United States Virgin Islands, Anguilla and St Maarten, inviting or asking when similar town halls will be held.
In its effort to rescue St Kitts and Nevis from the clutches of a failed Timothy Harris-led coalition, the SKNLP leadership has been listening to the views and concerns of nationals at home and abroad.
Of major concern is expressed plans by Dr Harris to disenfranchise citizens who are registered to vote and whose names are on the Voters List to by removing their names and introducing a residency requirement to go back on the voters list for the next general elections due anytime now and in a few months.
Nationals in London, Birmingham and Ontario, have expressed concern about developments in St Kitts and Nevis including the widespread nepotism, the high cost of living, rising unemployment, rampant corruption, a slowing economy, significant reduction in agricultural produce, the non-accountability of the government and other failures in almost all important sectors of the St Kitts and Nevis economy.
