MEN ARE MAKING OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS IN MANY AREAS, SAYS DIRECTOR OF DEPARTMENT OF GENDER AFFAIRS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 22, 2019 (SKNIS): The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis has taken the necessary steps to better enhance gender equality. This was highlighted on November 19 when the Federation joined the global community in the observation of International Men’s Day.
Director in the Department of Gender Affairs, Celia Christopher, outlined the significance of this observation on the radio and television show “Working for You” on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.
Mrs. Christopher expressed that in the past, “the focus was on women”, referring to the Department of Gender Affairs.
However, she asserted that “if we are talking about gender equality, then you must bring men into the conversation,” particularly in 2019.
Mrs. Christopher elaborated on her position saying that this is so because “men are making some outstanding contributions” to their family and society at large.
The Director of Gender Affairs said, “it is only fair that we celebrate the men in our lives.”
As part of its celebration for International Men’s Day which is celebrated in over 70 countries globally, the St. Kitts Department of Gender Affairs held its annual International Men’s Day Awards Ceremony on November 19 at the Ocean Terrace Inn where ten men and a corporate partner were presented with plaques for their sterling contributions in several fields.
