Calculating a victory for the St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) in the shortly to be announced General Election of 2020, regional pollster Bill Johnson of Johnson’s Survey Research Limited Inc., also observed that a majority of the voters in St Kitts is of the view that Dr Douglas would make a better Prime Minister than the incumbent Team Unity Leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.
Johnson also steered to the high level of dishonesty in the government during an interview with Freedom FM’s Juni Liburd Wednesday afternoon.
Johnson stated the opposition St Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) “continues to be significantly in the lead.”Advertise right here on SKN News
“Because of paying the criminals’ programme, crime is no longer a hot button problem that it was in previous elections. What’s coming up is this whole matter of paying crooks. The people were worried about crime, now more and more they are concerned about attempting to bribe the gangsters and paying for peace,” said Johnson.
“Other subjects of concern are jobs. The matter quite frankly is the perception of how the prime minister is just in it for himself and his family. 20% of the people regardless of the constituency that we polled in, intimated that they had interests about how the prime minister just seems to be required to line his pockets and the pockets of his family only,” Johnson revealed. He said that the acknowledgement came in an open-ended question.
He said: “We did not ask people, ‘do you think the prime minister ….we ask what some of the things that you like about the prime minister and some of the things that you dislike about the prime minister are.’ And the fact that off the top of their heads was how he essentially cares about himself and his family. A lot of people in common.”
The US-born pollster lives in Jamaica and has been handling polls in the Caribbean and the United States for 23 years said he “never had a problem linking to the corruption that was that high. I have never seen anything approach the energy that the issue (of corruption) has.”
“Overall, I am calculating that Labour is ahead in seven seats. They are having sincere challenges in two seats, and two seats are up for grabs,” said Johnson, who, incidentally, correctly predicted the defeat of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party in 2015.
On the issue of popularity, Johnson said in the eight constituencies in St Kitts, “Dr Douglas is significantly leading from Timothy Harris in six of the constituencies in St Kitts, while Team Unity leader, Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, is strongly observed in his constituency of number 7.
“In six of them Dr Douglas has a determined lead over who they want as prime minister and who would make the most desirable prime minister,” said Johnson, who added that his survey polled 300 persons in each of the eight constituencies on St Kitts.
